Remington Centerfire Rifles

Thanks for looking over our inventory, including our Remington Center-fire Rifles; and for those among our shoppers who have done business with us in the past. We use NRA grading terminology and percentages of the original finish remaining on the firearm in our descriptions. While firearm grading is subjective like coin grading, we have tried to give ample closeup photos of the firearms and tried to describe any detracting features of each firearm in such a way as seller and buyer can be as clear as possible on the merchandise’s condition. We include specific citations to Fjiestad’s Blue Book of Gun Values, published annually by Krause Publications.

Most of our firearms are listed on

Guns America         with a few on           Auction Arms

and a few more on Gun Broker. Our most comprehensive listings, and most of our new arrivals, are on Guns America. You don't have to join to view our listings, but it's easy to enroll.

We are interested in buying walnut and bright blue Remington Bolt Actions and Pumps in Excellent Condition. Please bear in mind that it costs us about $50 to process a gun, to book it, clean it, photograph it, write it up, and publish it on the web. We are interested in any nice rifle in .243 caliber.

Format is our stock number & heading – then photos – then description and price on each item.

Rem 7600 .270 VG-Exc 2001

Date code on this very nice Remington 7600 Rifle in .270 Winchester caliber is WV, August 2001. This is a sparsely used, domestic rifle to West Tennessee, and it flirts with Excellent status. Its principal surface detraction is an area of moderate scouring and scratching on the heel of the buttstock just back of the swivel stud. Other than that, the stock and forend have only light to moderate wear, and we estimate the semi-glossy finish to rate about 85 percent overall. Receiver has som light spottiness around its lower sides from hand carry contact, but the upper part of the receiver and the barrel surface are Excellent. Operation wear to the slide bars and lower magazine tube are only moderate; after all, people simply do not fire high powered rifles like this one all that much. Bore and mechanism are excellent throughout. The 7600 and its ancestor 760 are deservedly popular among accuracy conscious deer hunters here in Tennessippi, with their free floating barrels and trouble free actions. This one is the full length rifle with 22 inch barrel and original 4-shot steel factory magazine. Replacement price on bright blue walnut stocked Remington Pumps like this one is now $700 or more in our neck of the woods. We’re offering this attractive, serviceable, accurate 7600 Remington, however, for only           $ 429.95

Rem .270 Bolt 710 w/Scope New Unfired

Here is an ugly but solid little rifle that Remington has contacted our fellow hillbillies from nearby Mayfield, Kentucky to build, the Model 710 bolt action in .270 Winchester Caliber. Despite the little rifles being quite ugly, we hear good reports from the 710s from our kin in Cabo, Tennessee. This rifle was one of the prizes at the Fayette County NWTF banquet, and it has never been fired, still has the hang tags. It even has a Bushnell 3x9x40 Sportview Scope already mounted, made in the world’s most populous nation. This one is date coded X W, December 2002. We’re offering this excellent little lightweight Remington 710 with Scope, .270 Winchester Caliber, unfired in its original box with papers                      for only           $ 339.95

Rem .30-06 700 ADL/S Exc

This twelve-year-old Remington .30-06 model 700 has seen very little actual firing, and only very careful hunting, in the custody of its exclusive retail owner here in the woods and bottomland of West Tennessee. We detect light superficial scuffing at only two places on the stock, neither of them conspicuous. The metal has a half dozen or so weak spots in its matte blue finish on the forward exterior surface of the barrel. We consider this rifle to be in Excellent Condition, since 90 percent or so of its original finish is intact. Bore, chamber and mechanism are all Excellent. This is a genuine 700 Remington, not the cheaper descendant 710, known for its strength, accuracy, and excellent handling qualities. Barrel length is 22 inches, and weight is just over 7 pounds empty. Many of us have preferred the ADL for years over the BDL, due to its inherently stronger stock. Since Remington has gone into high gear mass producing its Kentucky 770 rifles, the ADL has apparently been discontinued. Date code on this one is L Q, February 1996. Replacement price on the closest new 700 Synthetic available, the 700 SPS, is well over $500 in our area. We’re offering this very nice .30-06 Remington 700, however,      for only           $ 359.95

Relevant portion of the date code on this solid, well-preserved Remington 742 Woodsmaster is OZ, July of 1975. That is the period of time when Mr. Wayne Webster of Bolivar, Tennessee, long-time proprietor of Webster’s Sporting Goods, attempted to teach our present proprietor a few things about guns and people. One of the things we distinctly remember is Wayne’s lesson on how to tell whether a 742 is still good, by looking at the bolt guide rails inside the receiver. If they are chewed up, beware; the rifle is only good for parts. But one like this, with the rails smooth and intact – as the photos show – is in good mechanical condition, viable, serviceable, and shootable. We have cleaned and test fired this rifle, and it is flawless mechanically. This is a local one-owner from one of the Hensley family now-elders from McNairy County. It has been well maintained and shows relatively little surface wear from its long but sparing-use career in the woods around Finger and Leapwood, Tennessee. We rate it as Very Good finishwise, with 75 to 80 percent of the original finish remaining. The muzzle area shows moderate wear, as the photos show; the magazine has some rust residue on its bottom area; and there are some pecks and scuffs on the upper left side of the receiver, as the photos show. There are no serious detractions in the walnut beyond a light edge chip on the rear left lower edge of the forend, and that chip is small and does not penetrate all the way through to the metal. This rifle still has period 1970s narrow-aperture Kwik Site mounts installed, and all it needs to be period correct is an older Japanese-made Tasco or Bushnell 3x9 scope. Bore and mechanism are excellent. Own this good, solid old Remington, capable of many years of hunting service so long as its owner takes as good care of it as our Hensley cousins                      for only           $ 339.95

Date code on this Remington 742 Woodsmaster auto is K Q, May 1978. This is a very nice, well tended and only occasionally used specimen of the most popular .30-06 Auto ever manufactured. Its detractions are as follows. There is light to moderate white streaking on the sharp edges of the receiver. Muzzle sides and edges of the front sight have moderate wear indications. The receiver surface has a few inconspicuous scuffs and scours, and a similar situation holds with the genuine American walnut stock and forend. There are no cracks anywhere in the wood, and none of the scuffs and scours penetrate the patented RKW Du Pont glossy original factory finish. Note that weathering to the butt end of the stock near the white spacer is only moderate. Remington did not seal the butt end of the buttstocks on their glossy finished rifles and shotguns until the 1990s, so mild swelling at the butt end is common. Bore and mechanism, as the photos show, are excellent. Only the upper rail behind the bolt shows operation scallops, and the visible rails show only moderate wear. The scops Is a good one, but not period and not notable because it was made in China; it is, however, an excellent quality Simmons 4x12 variable with eyepiece adjustment and 40mm front lens. Scope mounts are from the period, unmarked wide Kwik Site mounts with a nice light metallic blue appearance. If we ship this rifle, the scope will have to be dismounted to avoid damage. If the buyer doesn’t want the scope, we will discount the rifle $25, enough to pay shipping to the lower 47 states, or ship for only $15 to Alaska, Hawaii, or California without the scope. Own this very nice, eminently serviceable Carter era 742 Woodmaster .30-06                     for only                       $ 389.95

Relevant date code on this fine little rifle is BB, January 1981, President Reagan’s Inaugural month. At the time, this was Remington’s best buy for accuracy. The 788’s 9-lug bolt ranked with the Weatherby Mark V’s, and many times the 788 would outshoot the Mark V and even most other rivals. Bore is excellent, but the chamber has about 10 percent very light pitting. The rifle fires and extracts flawlessly. Metal has normal case contact wear, and there is light occasional external pitting that affects less than 10 percent of the external surface. The stock has a subdued plain oil finish with light to moderate scuffing that affects about 15 percent of its surface area. Own this fine, accurate Remington .308                        for only                       $ 489.95.

While we are not much on dealing new guns, we often jump on board at a good buy like this Remington 700 Detachable Magazine variant with 24 inch, 1:10 twist medium barrel. We were able to land a couple of these, and from our experience they’re shooters, not lookers. They come with 4 shot detachable box magazine and synthetic DuPont black composite stocks. The matte finish is weather resistant for superior accuracy even in wet conditions. Own one of these fine .308s   for only           $ 489.95

Here is a very nice, little used Remington .30-06 Auto in the newer, improved descendant of the perennial 742 Carbine. The barrel exterior only has moderate white showing on its muzzle and sight sides, with a small etchy contact spot on the right forward side of the barrel about 2 inches behind the muzzle. Receiver shows minimal external wear, with some white scuffy edges to the trigger guard and bottom of the magazine. The satin gloss Walnut stock and forend retain 85 to 90 percent of their original finish, with a half dozen or so small inconspicuous pecks or scuffs on the forend; the stock has a series of scrapes inconspicuously located on the underside of the pistol grip with moderate scuffing on the comb and here and there on the buttstock. Bore and mechanism are excellent; our local gunsmith checked this rifle out for us earlier in the year. From our knowledge of its two owners, this rifle has only been fired about 100 rounds and has been kept clean and properly maintained. We consider it to grade a strong Very Good, about 85 percent finishwise; the photos should allow prospective owners to judge finish grade for themselves, however. From its barrel codes, we surmise that WM is the date code, August 1992 manufacture. Replacement price on this rifle in our area is around $600; we’re offering this one, however,          for only           $ 449.95

Relevant Date Code letters are P H on this Remington 742 Woodsmaster Carbine. It was manufactured, then, in June of 1961. It has normal graying surface wear, a gray patina metal surface with perhaps 15 percent of its original blue remaining. Note the repair work to the buttstock, upper pistol grip area. This rifle was fired without the protector plate at the rear of the receiver, which fact resulted in a battered upper pistol grip, and we had it glassed and repaired. The repair will definitely hold. Bore and chamber are Very Good, we have had this 742 Carbine test fired. It functions well, and there is no heavy wear indications to the bolt rails inside the receiver. The original metal buttplate is intact. Barrel length is, of course, 18.5 Inches. We’re offering this serviceable, collectable old 742      for only                 $ 299.95.

While black synthetic guns are not our forte or specialty, .22-250 and .308 have always been high demand calibers locally for us. At press time, we were in stock on both calibers in the 700 SPS, an exceptional value for its quality and accuracy. Forend area is vented beavertail for enhanced heat dissipation and improved accuracy. Factory specs are as follows: Bolt Action 4+1 internal magazine with BDL type floorplate; 26 inch Heavy Matte Blue Barrel; Single Stage Adjustable Trigger; two position safety; 46 ½ inches overall length; 8 ½ pounds weight empty; black synthetic DuPost Stock; caliber .308 Winchester / 7.62x51 NATO.  While the first photo is Remington ad art, the rifle in the photo has an identical mate at press time. We rarely stock new long guns, but these were an exceptional value that one of our distributor friends had on special.             We had our friendly local gunsmith clean the chamber and test fire this rifle, and it functions flawlessly. This is a totally original 1966 Remington 150th Anniversary model 742 Woodsmaster semi-auto in the majority caliber, .30-06. It is well-weathered from use as a hunting rifle since it was new, owned by the same family. It has been in our shop many times, but the owner finally lost it on pawn pledge. This rifle is responsible for a hole in our ceiling, placed there about 30 years ago. Scuffs, scours and finish loss is evident on about 40 percent of the walnut stock and forend. There is a hairline crack on the right side of the pistol grip area from receiver to checkering, but that crack has been there at least 20 years and has not moved or increased. To its credit, there is no water swelling on the walnut, something quite unusual for a Remington. The original aluminum buttplate and grip cap are intact and excellent. Bore and chamber are Very Good to Excellent, with no evidence of pitting anywhere. The blue surface is better than the wood, and it rates perhaps as high as 80 percent, Very Good in our estimation. We’re offering this Remington Sesquicentennial .30-06 Woodsmaster, at once serviceable and collectable,      for only           $319.95

Sales policy: We accept Mastercard or Visa on a phone- or fax-in basis; and USPS Money Orders for immediate shipment. Personal checks, company checks, and in some instances Cashier’s Checks may involve a delay of no more than 8 business days for clearance. We offer a 7 day return privilege, lay-aways and NIB guns excluded. We offer 90 day lay-away with 20 percent down, balance in 90 days, but will levy a 6% per month service charge on the unpaid balance if the lay-away runs past 90 days. We accept trade-ins at agreed-upon prices, delivered to us. We cannot be responsible for the freight on returns unless we have made some sort of glaring mistake.

Walk-in customers from Tennessee may buy firearms of any type we have. Tennessee Sales Tax is 9 ¾%, and there is a $10 TBI Tennessee Instant Check Fee on all firearms purchases. Customers from many other states may buy long guns, but that depends on your state's laws. Buyers from Connecticut, Florida, Texas, or California, for example, cannot walk in to our store and buy a firearm; buyers from Indiana, Montana, or Oklahama, for example, can. They are subject to the same sales tax and TICS fees as Tennessee Residents.

Shipping rates and information: We must have a signed copy of the purchaser’s Federal Firearms License in order to ship firearms interstate, and that licensee must check out with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives as a current, bona fide licensee. Legible faxed and scanned copies are permissible. Individuals commonly use Licensees to act as transfer agents. We always include a gun lock and a copy of the Federal Youth Firearms Safety Act brochure with handguns, shipped or over-the-counter; and we always furnish a copy of our FFL to the receiving dealer.

First handgun is $15.00, $7.50 each for add-ons, insured, USPS Priority Mail. $20 for First Hand Gun to Alaska, California, or Hawaii. California approved gun lock is included at this rate.

Interstate Shipments of Firearms can go to Federally Licensed Dealers Only. Anyone who undertakes to purchase a firearm must first of all be eligible to own one under State and Federal Law. Disabilities from owning firearms include being under 21 for a handgun (or pistol grip rifle or shotgun) or under 18 for a long gun; conviction, indictment or information of a misdemeanor domestic violence or felony (it does not matter if the person served jail time or not, the conviction or information suffices); adjudication of a nervous disorder or disability; and non-citizenship in the United States. If anyone who is not eligible to own a firearm attempts to purchase one from us, we will assist law enforcement in that person’s prosecution. If anyone attempts to aid and abet the acquisition of a firearm from us for an ineligible person, we will assist in all involved parties’ prosecution. We have no intention of violating any laws. That is why we cannot ship some firearms and/or magazines to jurisdictions that include California, Maryland, New Jersey, and the New York City vicinity.

One of the most common and persistent violations of Federal Law is the straw purchase. Never attempt to buy a gun for someone else under any circumstances. Even spouses buying for each other is tricky. We will not accept third party payment for firearms purchases. If you want to buy someone a present, buy something besides a firearm.

If an unlicensed individual wishes to purchase a firearm that we have advertised on a mail order, interstate basis, he or she must do so legally through an FFL, a federally licensed dealer. Dealers normally charge transfer fees. In our experience, the most readily available transferors are Pawnbrokers and Gunsmiths. Please have transfer logistics worked out before contacting us for a purchase. Thanks for your interest. Law Enforcement officers may purchase a firearm through their department only if it will be used on duty, and Department Letters and paperwork from the Chief Law Enforcement Officer in the jurisdiction are required.
