Silver Reserve Double Barrel Side-by-Sides
Mossberg Rifles: 4x4 and 100 ATR
We
have in our store a mid 1800s percussion muzzleloading shotgun that was the murder weapon in the
death of one of our Scots Irish relatives, John Noah Young. Local vigilantes
conducted a much publicized lynching of the perpetrator, surname of Lyrue. Most of our ancestors used similar double barrels,
and Stevens Doubles were part of our stock in trade when we started in 1952.
The 1897 and 1912 Winchester Shotguns with their slide actions were made for
smokeless powder, and those venerable field guns also held their place among
our early stock. The newcomer Remington 870 swiftly overtook the Winchesters
among the rabbit, squirrel, and dove hunters of our little county after their
1950 debut. By the early 1960s, however, a new creature from an old company
came into play, the Mossberg 500 pump gun. In the 1960s and 1970s, with more
capital among our hard working clientele, the Remington 870 eclipsed its much
neglected competitor, the plain Jane, lowly Mossberg. The Mossbergs were always
there, though. They weren’t pretty, but they worked. Those early Mossbergs only
had one slide arm, but then so did the much revered
Winchester Model 12s. In 1970, when Mossberg installed double steel slide arms
into its model 500 series shotguns, a new wave of respectability hit.
Mossberg’s reputation increased in 1988 when its 835 Ulti-Mag hit the market,
and drastically undercut Remington on its price points and more importantly on
its ability to function in the foulest of weather conditions.
With the
demise of domestically produced Savage Stevens 311 series shotguns about the
same time, first China, then Russia, and then finally
Turkish gunmakers filled the void with sturdy and
slick looking double barrels. The Turks, as of this writing, have taken the
field.

From
Mossberg’s International division comes this
outstanding Silver Reserve Side by Side Shotgun. Examination of its lines and
workmanship demonstrate the impressive expertise of Turkish Gunmakers who,
after all, have been at the trade for as long as their Italian teachers and
counterparts. The home company is Kayhan Art of
Turkey. Not only Mossberg, but also Remington, Smith & Wesson, and
Weatherby have all indulged their lines with shotguns made in Turkey; and this
is the most attractive of the entire lot. It is every bit as slick as the
Ithaca / SKB doubles from the 1970s. Kayhan, and
pretty much all Turkish guns we have sold, portray their Italian influence. The
milling equipment, we are told, is from Italy. Metal construction is all steel,
blue steel 28 inch barrels. Chambering is for any 2 3/4 inch or 3 inch shell.
Choke system is Beretta Mobil-choke style, threads at the muzzle, and any
Benelli or Beretta tubes will interchange with the Silver Reserve’s tubes. This
shotgun comes with a total of five tubes: two each .708 Improved Cylinder; and
one each .701 Modified, one each .691 Improved Modified,
and one each .683 Full. Sighting system is low groove recessed rear beginning
at the top of the breech lug, and brass bead front sight. Ejection system is
solid block extractors, no shell-slinging ejectors. Mechanism is classic
Beretta style box lock with Single Selective Trigger and tang mounted safety
that also acts as the barrel selector in safe position. Trigger guard, breech
lever and forend furniture are all blue steel; and receiver is half coverage
engraved nickel plated steel. Stock and forend are
satin finished Turkish Walnut, with cut checkering on the forend sides and
pistol grip area. Length of pull measures 14 1/8 inches from the face of the
single gold plated trigger to the end of the 1/2 inch decelerator type factory
recoil pad. Buttstock drop is 1 3/4 inches at the comb, and 2 1/2 inches at the
butt. Right hand cant to the buttstock is about an inch, so this shotgun will
not be southpaw friendly unless its buttstock is altered or shimmed to cant it
to the left. Weight empty is 7.2 pounds, balanced at the front of the receiver.
Photo specimen is one of only a few dozen we were able to get on an Importer liquidation. All of them are brand new, and
under Mossberg Factory Service Warranty; at this price, however, we will accept
returns within 7 days of the execution of the 4473 form. We have only seen
occasional edge scouring around the pistol grip cap area on the buttstock.
Photo specimen’s buttstock stain is natural and original to its walnut.
Replacement pricing on this shotgun is over $1,000.00 on the retail level. It
wholesales for over $700.00. We’re offering the 12 gauge Mossberg 77084 Silver
Reserve in the photos, however, or one of its identical mates, each for only $ 389.00. 2% discount if payment is with USPS Money

gauge Model 835 Ulti-Mag 10 Shot Custom Tactical 3 1/2 inch chamber 24 inch
Fiber Optic Adjustable Rifle Sights Ported
Click on
the photo for a full array of photos of this shotgun
Why
get all hot and bothered wanting an AR-15 when this shotgun outperforms that
venerable rifle at close range? Firing a 1 9/16 ounce load of 3 1/2 inch #T
steel shot delivers payload roughly equivalent to 100 rounds of .22 LR ammunition,
all in one shot, and recoil is more manageable with
steel, especially with this Mossberg’s padded synthetic stock configuration.
With, for instance, Winchester’s 54 Pellet #4 Buck in 3 1/2 inch, a similar
payload with 54 pellets develops, like firing 54 rounds of .22 LR ammunition,
all with one single pull of the trigger. With its extended steel Choate Machine
Tool magazine, this model 835 goes from its original 5 + 1 capacity on 2 3/4
inch shells up to 9 + 1. Capacity, of course, on 3 inch shells is one less, and two less with 3 1/2 inch shells. Payload
capability, then, with steel is the close range equivalent of 800 rounds of .22
LR. This fine shotgun’s 24 inch barrel comes outfitted with a .690 diameter
Turkey Extra Full Accu-Mag Tube that is NOT for use with steel shot. We are
also including a factory Accu-Mag tube in blue steel, marked Full BB #1
, that measures .702 and works fine for Steel Shot, and matches the
ordinary Improved Cylinder constriction for tactical shotguns. Barrel has 16 recoil-reducing
ports arrayed on either side of the second rib post. The Ventilated Rib houses
high visibility green fiber optic front sight, and windage
and elevation adjustable red double fiber optic rear sight. Finish, with the
exception of the choke tubes and Choate magazine tube extension, are Mossy Oak
Break-Up Infinity Camo. Construction is the same as any model 835, steel barrel
and parts housed in a lightweight alloy receiver that renders a light, well
balanced unloaded weight of (statistics coming soon)
Forend,
trigger guard, and buttstock are matching finish polyemer.
Buttstock measures 14 1/8 inches length of pull from the trigger face to the
end of the inch thick black recoil pad. Note that the buttstock accepts
standard Quick-detach swivels, and the magazine clamp has its own permanent
swivel that can easily modified to accept a QD swivel.
Replacement pricing on similarly equipped custom shotguns will range upwards of
$800 apiece. We’re offering the Custom Tactical or Turkey 835 in the photos, however,
or one of its identical mates for only $
489.00. Not transferable to civilian
residents of New York City, or any jurisdiction where
9 shot pump shotguns are restricted to Law Enforcement only.

Why get all hot and bothered

Pellet #4 Buck in 3 1/2 inch, a similar payload with 54 pellets develops, like
firing 54 rounds of .22 LR ammunition, all with one single pull of the trigger.
This Mossberg 535 shotgun is built on the time honored 500 design,
only capable of handling any standard or magnum 12 gauge shells all the way
from 2 3/4 inch trap loads to the 3 1/2 inch magnums we’ve mentioned. Photos
show a specimen of Mossberg’s 535 Turkey Thug with 20 inch Accu-Mag barrel and
that is furnished with a ported factory Mossberg XX Full Accu-Choke tube that
mikes at .724 on its back side and then chokes down to .664 at the muzzle, a
pretty drastic amount of constriction. A person should not, of course, use
steel shot in the XX Full tube; We are also including a factory
Mossberg Extended Steel Shot tube for folk who want to use steel shot.
Construction on the 535 is similar to the 500: steel barrel and internal parts
including double slide bars, all mounted to a lightweight but very strong alloy
receiver. Note the Picatinny or Weaver type rail on top of the receiver to
accept most any optical or laser device. Finish is factory MOBU-INF Mossy Oak
Breakup / Infinity camo. This shotgun’s only surface detractions are handling
wear marks to that camo finish, principally on its buttstock and pistol grip
edges, as the photos will show. At press time we had fewer than a dozen of
these; their writeups are the same, but the photos
are of each individual shotgun and our photographer is on the lookout for the
wear spots. We classify this shotgun as Excellent, perhaps even Near Mint. It
was never out of Mossberg Corporate custody until we got it, never had a 4473
form executed on it. It is in a relabeled factory Mossberg box, and that is how
it shipped from the factory, with instruction manual and Mossberg cable lock.
It even has a six month factory Warranty, and that is why we have No Returns
indicated. Specs are slide or pump action shotgun, manufacturer O.F. Mossberg
& Sons, model 535 Turkey Thug, SKU 45229. Barrel is 20 inch threaded for
choke tubes, camo finish with factory fiber optic high visibility green and red
dot, bifocal friendly sights. Note the barrel lug placement is the same as the
model 500; barrels will interchange, but of course this is a 3 1/2 inch
receiver and most 500 Barrels will only handle 3 inch shells. Capacity is 5 + 1
on 2 3/4 inch shells, 4 + 1 on 3 inch, and 3 + 1 on 3 1/2 inch shells. Maximum
payload capacity, then, on #4 Lead Buckshot is 162 pellets on 2 3/4 inch; 205 pellets on 3 inch;
and 216 pellets of #4 Buck on 3 1/2 inch shells. Only the ill fated Thompson
.22 Clones and Calico helical guns of the 1980s could deliver similar
firepower. They didn’t work; the Mossberg 500 action does work. Note the
Mossberg LBA Lightning Bolt Action set trigger, one up on the Savage
Accu-Triggers; and yes, Virginia, accuracy and trigger pull are very important
on shotguns, especially for Turkey Hunting and Tactical Work. Replacement
pricing on brand new specimens, if a person can even find one, exceeds $600
apiece in our area. We’re offering the Mossberg 535 Turkey Thug, however, for
only $ 389.00. Our 535 Turkey
Thugs are individually photographed on Guns America.

The tried and true Mossberg 500
shotgun has not only been a staple stand by for hunters all over the country;
it is long respected by Law Enforcement. In its more highly developed forms,
the 500 SP and 590A1, it serves our country in its military as well. Here is a
special edition Mossberg 500, and we have complemented it further by adding a
polymer heat shield, somewhat on the style of the World War I trench gun. This
Mossberg 500’s barrel, magazine tube, slide arms, bolt, and shell carrier – all
its steel parts – are military parkerized finish; and the lightweight alloy
receiver is black matte anodized. Trigger group and safety lever are polymer,
and the safety is the traditional Mossberg top tang safety that is
southpaw-friendly. Other specs are: slide action shotgun with side ejection and
top tang safety; receiver disconnector lever, smooth faced combat trigger; 18
inch cylinder bore barrel with both 2 3/4 inch and 3 inch capability; magazine
capacity 5 + 1 on 2 3/4 inch shells or 4 + 1 on 3 inch magnums. Buttstock is
black synthetic, pliable high impact polymer that bends a bit during recoil and
soaks up some of the shaking; plus, it comes with the factory 1 inch thick
recoil pad, as the photos show. Forend is conventional semi-beavertail with
checkered surfaces. This variant came to us on a special purchase,
we only have a few of these. Replacement pricing on the currently produced 590
series Mossbergs, this one’s M&P descendants, is in the $600 range in our
area. We’re offering this Military and Police configuration Model 500, however,
the one in the photos and one of its identical mates, each for
only $ 289.00. Add a Factory
Pistol grip cruiser kit only $29.00 additional.
