Prices on this page are for cash, cleared check, or USPS Money Orders. There is a 2% processing and insurance charge for orders paid by Credit Card. Please find shipping rates at the bottom of the page.

Format is stock number (e.g. 1879A), heading, photos, then description on each $20 Liberty with pricing.

Pricing is by a multiple of the Gold Market Spot price for one ounce of Gold. We don’t mean to imply that a $10 Liberty contains a half ounce of Gold. It doesn’t. Its actual metal content, according to U.S. law, is .48375 Troy Ounce of gold. Pricing, however, is done by a multiple of Spot Price, because we cannot constantly re-price every piece of metal we have in the house. Even if Gold Spot goes below $900.00 an ounce, our pricing will hold to at least a $900 basis.

While we make no pretensions of being professional graders, we try to stay within parameters established by those who are. As we constantly reiterate, the ultimate grading decision rests with the purchaser, and we believe our photos and descriptions are clear enough for anyone to make an informed decision.

We have our $10 Eagles sorted by date: 1880-1889, and 1890-1907.

I. $10 Liberty Eagles 1900-1907

1901 A

$10 Gold Piece 1901 Eagle AU58

This very well struck $10 Liberty Gold Piece from the 1901 Philadelphia issue has full lustre and excellent details. There is only a slight amount of flatness on the Southeast portion of the hair above Liberty's ear. Slight bag scuffing is evident on the obverse. Reverse has full lustre with some scuffing in the fields. Eagle feathers are fully detailed. Reverse has some attractive light toning near letters and Eagle's outline. This is at least a strong AU, in our opinion - it would pass, we believe, for a BU. The important opinion as to grading, however, is that of the prospective buyer.   Spot price x .50 Plus $35. If Gold is at $900, then the price on this coin is $485.00, .50 x $900 ($450) plus $35.00. If Gold is at $1000, then the price on this coin is $535.00 – and so on, all down the page. If gold goes to $890, our price will still hold to a $900 basis.

1901B

$10 Gold Piece Liberty Eagle 1901 AU

The chief detraction to this 1901 $10 Gold Piece is the circular toning on its obverse. We believe it would remove, but we are not coin cleaners. Note there is only very slight flattening to Liberty’s ear and the hair above it, and some burnishing on the higher points of her nose, chin, and shoulder area. Reverse is nigh perfect, with only the beginnings of dark toning. We consider this 1901 Eagle to be About Uncirculated, but photos should suffice for interested parties to judge grade for themselves. We’re offering it                       for only Spot price x .50 Plus $35. (Below Gray Sheet pro rata bid)

1901S A

$10 Gold Piece Liberty Eagle 1901-S VF35

This 1901-S $10 Gold Piece has excellent detail in several areas, and even toned lustre near the edges. Many sellers would grade it as at least Extremely Fine. The flattened areas, however, on Liberty's hair and ear below the headband on the obverse prompt us to stay conservative and call it a Very Fine. The Eagle's left wing on Reverse has excellent detail, but discernible wear on its upper 25% or so surface area. Horizontal shield lines are clear and strong. As to whether or not this one's an XF, prospective buyers should be able to make an informed grading decision from the photos.  Spot price x .50 Plus $20. (Below Gray Sheet pro rata bid)

1905 A

$10 Gold Piece Liberty Eagle 1905 MS62

This is an excellent representative of Philadelphia's 1905 $10 Liberty Gold Piece production. It has full lustre both sides, and bag marking is very modest. The only detraction s to the obverse are two tiny marks, one from Liberty's ear lobe extending toward her chin, and an even lighter similar area in the field near her forehead. Date digits show some evidence of bag marking contact. Reverse is even less marked, with the only detraction as a bit of contact flattening to a tiny central area of the Eagle's left wing. We consider this coin to be MS 62, but believe the photo is clear enough for interested parties to draw their own conclusions as to grade.         Spot price x .50 Plus  $90 (Below Gray Sheet pro rata bid)

1905S A

$10 Gold Piece Liberty Eagle 1905-S VF

A very nice specimen struck in San Francisco in 1905. This $10 Eagle has, interestingly, great hair detail above Liberty's hair band and on her hair buns; but there is some discernible wear to the top part of the L, and some wear to Liberty's ear and adjacent hair. Reverse features are very strong, with sufficiently strong horizontal shield lines and great detail on Eagle's left wing tip. We consider it to be at least Very Fine, perhaps Extremely Fine - for sure on the reverse. But the photos should allow buyers to judge for themselves.  Spot price x .50 Plus $20.00. (Below Gray Sheet pro rata bid)

1906D A

$10 Gold Piece Liberty Eagle MS61

This $10 Liberty Gold Piece from the new Detroit Mint was issued in 1906, and it is excellent. It has full lustre and excellent strong details both sides. Bag marking is moderate on obverse and mostly confined to the field. Obverse rim shows some evidence of marking between 11 o'clock and 12 o'clock on its edge, and there is a dark soot or toning mark on the beads at 3 o'clock. Bag marking to reverse is less extensive, with one somewhat conspicuous area in field beneath Eagle's left wing. We consider this coin to be a strong MS61, but believe that the photo shows sufficient detail for interested parties to draw their own conclusions as to grade.      Spot price x .50 Plus $75. (Below Gray Sheet pro rata bid)

1906D B

$10 Gold Piece Liberty Eagle BU

This $10 Liberty Gold Piece is a pioneer from the Detroit Mint's issue of 1906. It has full lustre, and we consider it to be Brilliant Uncirculated. The bag was unkind to the obverse, especially to Liberty's lower jaw where there's a vertical mark in line with another that runs to her hairline. Field marking is modest on obverse. Reverse is well struck and fully detailed, with modest marking in the field. Photo should be adequate for interested parties to judge for themselves as to grade.   (Sent to ANACS for grading, eta available July 2008)

1906D D

$10 Gold Piece Liberty Eagle MS63

This excellent specimen from the new Detroit Mint's $10 Liberty Gold Piece issue for 1906 has full frosty lustre both sides with some hints of toning on obverse from 3 o'clock to 5 o'clock, and again at 9 o'clock. Details are excellent throughout, and bag marking is negligible. We consider this to be a strong MS 63, but we believe the photo speaks for the coin with sufficient clarity and detail for prospective buyers to judge grade for themselves. Own this fine 1906-D, (Sent to ANACS for grading, eta available July 2008)

1907 A

$10 Gold Piece Liberty Eagle 1907 AU/Cleaned

We urge interested parties to consider this coin's sharp, full details despite its having been cleaned. Liberty's hairline detail is consistently sharp, and all areas of the Reverse Eagle retain their clarity. Since the coin was cleaned a couple decades ago, some frosty toning has returned to some areas and doubtless will continue. We consider this to be an AU 58; cleaned, but prospective buyers should examine the photograph for themselves and draw their own conclusions as to whether we have adequately defended the coin's condition.              Spot price x .50 Plus $40. (Below Gray Sheet pro rata bid)

1907 B

$10 Gold Piece Liberty Eagle 1907 AU-BU

This well-struck $10 Liberty from 1907 Philadelphia is, we believe, in Mint State Condition. There are only a few scattered tiny pecks on its obverse field and hair detail is excellent throughout. Eagle's feathers on Reverse are in exquisite detail throughout, yet the upper wing rib on the left wing is not quite what we'd like. It's an excellent coin with great lustre and flats. It's at least an AU, we believe, if not an MS-60 or 61. Photos should suffice for interested parties to judge for themselves. Spot price x .50 Plus $50. (Below Gray Sheet pro rata bid)

1907 C

$10 Gold Piece Liberty Eagle 1907 MS63

This $10 Liberty Gold Piece, struck in Philadelphia in 1907, has full frosty lustre on both obverse and reverse. Bag marking is minimal. Obverse marking is mostly in 3 to 5 o'clock field, on the date digits, a bit on Liberty's shoulder, and in the 10 to 11 o'clock field area. Reverse marking is confined almost exclusively to small portions of the field beneath the Eagle's wings and feet. Excellent details on hair and feathers. We consider this coin to be a strong MS 63, but photo should suffice for interested parties to assess grade for themselves.           Own this fine 1906-D (Sent to ANACS for grading, eta available July 2008)

II. $10 Liberty Eagles 1890 - 1899

1892 A

$10 Gold Piece Liberty Eagle 1892 AU58

This $10 Liberty Gold Piece comes from Philadelphia Mint's 1892 issue, and it's a nice one. Obverse has considerable, near-full lustre. Hair detail is full above the headband, and even though the bag was unkind to the hair above Liberty's ear, detail remains. Obverse marking is moderate overall, and there is some nice toning around the date and above Liberty's head. Reverse is strongly struck, very lustrous, and only modestly marked in the field. Eagle's left wing tip has only the slightest hints of wear. We consider, then, this coin to be an AU, but prospective buyers should be able to judge for themselves from the photo.        Spot price x .50 Plus $50.00. (Below Gray Sheet pro rata bid)

1892 B

$10 Gold Piece Liberty Eagle 1892 XF45

This $10 Liberty Gold Piece was struck in Philadelphia in 1892 as the Depression gathered steam. The wear evident on Liberty's hair above her ear, and weakness to some areas of hairlines above the band, is offset by great details on the hair buns and neck braids. What few tiny surface pecks there are in the obverse field are compensated by frosty lustre between the stars and beads. Reverse's only discernible wear appears to be the Eagle's left wing tip area, and there's plenty of edge lustre to make up for it. We consider this coin to be in Extremely Fine condition, but the important consideration here is the studied opinions of prospective buyers, aided sufficiently by the photograph. Spot price x .50 Plus $35.00. (Below Gray Sheet pro rata bid)

1892 C

$10 Gold Piece Liberty Eagle 1892 XF45

Typical of strongly struck Philadelphia $10 Eagles, this 1892 specimen has a significant amount of lustre and feather detail on the reverse Eagle's left wing. Those and other considerations, visible in the photograph, would place this coin in at least the Almost Uncirculated category if it weren't for a minute and annoying bit of wear to the hair near Liberty's ear and forehead. The ear itself and the hair immediately above it have strong detail, but just enough visible wear to prevent us from using the U-word. We believe it's a very strong Extremely Fine, but prospective buyers should be easily able to judge for themselves from the photos.                Spot price x .50 Plus $35.00. (Below Gray Sheet pro rata bid)

1892S A

$10 Gold Piece Liberty Eagle 1892S VF35+

This $10 Eagle was struck in San Francisco in 1892 as the Depression loomed. Its headband and letters are sharply detailed, but there is probably too much wear to the portion of Liberty's hair below the band for the coin to grade Extremely Fine. There is, however, a fair amount of toned lustre near the obverse edges. Reverse's horizontal shield lines are strong, but Eagle's left wing has moderate wear evident almost its entire length. The Left wing's central details, nevertheless, are visible enough. Many examiners would, we believe, call this an XF. We will stick to the more conservative VF, but prospective buyers ought to be able to grade for themselves from the photos. Those graders, the buyers, after all, are the ones who really count. Spot price x .50 Plus $30.00. (Below Gray Sheet pro rata bid)

1893 A

$10 Gold Piece Liberty Eagle 1893 BU

As the photos clearly show, the mint or bank bag was not kind to the obverse of this somewhat rare US $10 Gold Piece struck in Philadelphia in 1893. Despite the scours, it has almost full luster and excellent details to Liberty’s ear and hair. The reverse fared better, with most contact evidence on the right side field. Feathers and reverse details are very sharp throughout. We consider this coin to be Uncirculated, perhaps as good as MS61, but photos should suffice for interested parties to judge finish grade for themselves. We’re offering this 1893 $10 Liberty Gold Piece                   for only            Spot price x .50 Plus $65. (Below Gray Sheet pro rata bid)

1894 B

$10 Gold Piece Liberty Eagle 1894 XF45

Sharp details on Liberty's hair and ear on the obverse, and reverse wear being pretty much confined to the Eagle's left wing tip; lead us to consider this well-struck Philadelphia 1894 $10 Liberty Gold Piece as a strong Extremely Fine. Photos, however, should give prospective buyers enough sense of details in order to grade for themselves.         Spot price x .50 Plus $50.00. (Below Gray Sheet pro rata bid)

1894 C

$10 Gold Piece Liberty Eagle 1894 MS61

We defend our opinion that this 1894 $10 Liberty, struck in Philadelphia at the height of the Depression, is in Mint State by pointing to its frosty lustre and unimpeded strong details throughout. Hair over Liberty's ear is excellent, and high points on Reverse Eagle's left wing show considerable detail despite some bag contact. We estimate 80-90% lustre remaining in the fields on both reverse and obverse. Interested parties should be able to concur or dissent from examining the close-up photographs.  Spot price x .50 Plus $60.00. (Below Gray Sheet pro rata bid)

1894 D

$10 Gold Piece Liberty Eagle 1894 AU/Cleaned

We urge interested parties not to reject this coin out of hand just because it may have been cleaned. Liberty's upper hair has full line detail, and the hair over her ear retains considerable detail as well. Obverse field has very few conspicuous surface scratches in the field. Reverse is excellent, with only a few tiny surface scours and wear to the Eagle's left wing is minimal on its high points. Reverse has a tiny flattened area at 8 o'clock. We have mentioned what is wrong with the coin; what is right with it is considerable amounts of brown-toned lustre around the edges, especially of the reverse, that overcomes, in our opinion, any detraction from a long-ago cleaning. We consider this an AU - cleaned, but prospective buyers should be able to judge for themselves from the photographs.           Spot price x .50 Plus $40.00. (Below Gray Sheet pro rata bid)

1894 E

$10 Gold Piece Liberty Eagle 1894 MS61

This excellent, well-struck specimen of the $10 Liberty Gold Piece is from Philadelphia's 1894 issue. It has full lustre and exquisite detail both on obverse and reverse. Field scouring is minimal. We consider this to be an MS61, but we urge interested parties to study the photographs and make their own conclusions.     Spot price x .50 Plus $60.00. (Below Gray Sheet pro rata bid)

1895S A

$10 Gold Piece Liberty Eagle 1895-S XF45

This is an excellent Eagle, struck in San Francisco during the Depression of the 1890s.  Liberty's hair is rich in detail on obverse with only minimal wear on the high points of Liberty's bun and over her ear. Hair band and letters are strong and clear. Only scattered light bag marks on field on obverse, one or two visible behind Liberty's head. Reverse has very sharp horizontal shield lines, and minimal wear showing on Eagle's left wing tip and high relief points of neck feathers. We consider this coin to be Extremely Fine, but photos should suffice for interested parties to grade for themselves.              Spot price x .50 Plus $75.00.  (Gray Sheet shows $175 over spot value for AU this date)

1898 A

$10 Gold Piece Liberty Eagle 1898 AU55

The obverse of this very nice coin has plenty of lustre and detail. There is a tiny surface peck on Liberty's lower jaw, and a tiny scratch between her eye and nose. There's a slightly flattened area on the rim edge only at 1 o'clock on Obverse. Hair detail, however, is excellent overall - even above the crucial ear area. Reverse offsets several light surface streaks with excellent detail - only the extreme wing tip area of the Eagle's left wing shows wear - and with plenty of lustre. Horizontal shield lines have two small diagonal scratches. We consider this coin to be an AU, but photo detail should suffice for interested parties to judge for themselves.             Spot price x .50 Plus $50.00. (Below Gray Sheet pro rata bid)

1899 A

$10 Gold Piece Liberty Eagle 1899 AU58

This very nice 1899 $10 Eagle from Philadelphia is a very sharp coin with a substantial amount of lustre. There are a few very small bag pecks on obverse; one is noticeable but not conspicuous opposite Liberty's lower molars. Hairline detail is excellent, with the left ear's hair showing only the slightest amount of wear. Reverse details very strong as is subdued lustre. Horizontal shield lines strong and clear, and there's only a very, very slight amount of high-point flattening on the Eagle's left wing tip. This is a beautiful coin, but interested parties can opine for themselves from the photo.       Spot price x .50 Plus $50.00. (Below Gray Sheet pro rata bid)

1899 B

$10 Gold Piece Liberty Eagle 1899 BU

This excellent $10 Liberty Gold Piece from the Philadelphia issue of the final year of the nineteenth century has nearly-complete lustre in its field, with considerable amounts of frost both in Liberty's headband and above it. Wear to the hair area above Liberty's ear is slight, minimal. Obverse has borne some bag weight and may be a weak strike. Reverse is lustrous and exquisitely detailed, with the Eagle's left wing showing no wear. Reverse has spotty toning at 8 to 9 o'clock. We consider this coin, on the strength of its lustre and Reverse, to be an MS60. Photo should suffice, however, for an informed opinion of grading from more crucial individuals than we - prospective buyers.             Spot price x .50 Plus $60.00. (Below Gray Sheet pro rata bid)

1899S A

$10 Gold Piece Liberty Eagle 1899-S XF45

This S Mint $10 Gold Eagle, struck in the final year of the 19th Century, has a considerable amount of toned lustre near its edges. A very modest amount of wear near Liberty's left ear still has not obliterated the ear's hairlines. This slight wear, however, combined with some more slight wear to the Eagle's left wing prevent this coin, on our view, from being Almost Uncirculated, so we're sticking to our opinion that it's a strong Extremely Fine. The photos, however, should allow prospective buyers to judge for themselves, and theirs are the opinions that matter anyway.     Spot price x .50 Plus $40.00. (Below Gray Sheet pro rata bid)

1899S B

$10 Gold Piece Liberty Eagle 1899-S VF35+

This is a very nice Eagle struck in San Francisco in the last year of the nineteenth century. The reverse carries stronger details that the obverse. Obverse has moderate wear visible on Liberty's buns, eyebrow and hairlines above ear. Hair band and motto are clear and distinct. Field has some slight bag marks, one more conspicuous area behind Liberty's head. Date is clear but final 9 is somewhat flattened. Reverse has clear, sharp horizontal shield lines, but Eagle's left wing has wear showing about 1/3 way down from tip. We consider this $10 Gold Piece to be at least Very Fine, perhaps even Extremely Fine; but photo should allow buyers to grade for themselves. Spot price x .50 Plus $40.00. (Below Gray Sheet pro rata bid)
