on this page has what $5 Libertys we have divided into 3 groups, 1900-1907,
1880 – 1899, and pre-1880. Pricing is according to Gold Spot price. The market fluctuates every hour, as we all know. Our
pricing on these is a factor of the 1oz Gold Spot price at the time of
purchase. If gold falls below $900 per ounce, we will not factor at less than a
$900.00 market, so bear in mind that if we have an item priced .33 x Spot, even
if gold goes to $855 like it did a few weeks back, we would not sell the item
for less than $230.00. We don’t mean to confuse anybody, but this is the only
fair way we know to do it, and we don’t have time to list all we trade for
anyway, much less constantly reprice it.

1900$5A
$5 Liberty Gold Piece 1900 XF

An excellent Philadelphia-struck $5 Liberty Gold Piece from the turn of
the 20th century. Hair and band details are strong on obverse with only hints
of wear at their highest points. Reverse's horizontal shield lines are visible
but somewhat weak. Great detail to Eagle's neck feathers, however. Pretty lustrous toning on both obverse and reverse. We
consider this coin to be Extremely Fine, perhaps even an AU; the photos,
however, should suffice for interested parties to judge for themselves. Price
= .30 x Gold Spot ($300.00 on a
$900 Gold Market, $333 on a $1,000 Market, and so on)
1901$5A:
$5 Liberty Gold Piece 1901 XF-AU

A very nice $5 Liberty from Philadelphia struck in 1901 with pretty reddish
toning on both obverse and reverse. Excellent detail but
enough flattening on hairlines above and below the well-defined headband to
prevent it, in our opinion, from being an AU. Same way with reverse:
horizontal shield lines are weak even though Eagle's neck feathers are clear
and in excellent detail. Many sellers would defensibly argue,
if this were theirs, that this is an AU. We think it's an Extremely Fine; but
after all, prospective buyers should judge for themselves and our photos should
be clear enough for them to do just that.

1903s$5A
$5 Liberty Gold Piece 1903-S AU

This $5.00 gold piece, struck in San Francisco in 1903, has excellent
detail and considerable lustre. There is only a slight amoutn
of wear to Liberty's hair at the top above the band. The buns are well-detailed
with only slight wear. There are very few abrasions of any kind on this coin's
surface, obverse or reverse. Horizontal shield lines are somewhat weak on the
reverse, but right next to them the Eagle's neck feathers have excellent detail
- explicable by a weak strike. We consider this coin to be Almost Uncirculated,
but the photos should suffice for buyers to judge for themselves. Price

1903s$5B
$5 Liberty Gold Piece 1903-S AU

This is a very pretty San Francisco $5 Liberty Gold Piece
struck in 1903. It has a nice brownish-tint toning overall. Its obverse
hairlines are very clear, with only slight wear above the headband area, a
little to Liberty's eyebrow, and a slight amount on her bun. There's a glint of
a bag mark near the 11 o'clock star on the extreme obverse rim edge. Reverse's
horizontal shield lines are visible with some flattening of their edges. The
Eagle's neck feathers' weakness is likely from a weak strike. There's a small
bag mark on the reverse rim at 9 o'clock. This is an excellent coin; we
consider it to be AU. The photos, however, should suffice for interested
parties to judge for themselves. Price = .34 x Gold Spot
1904$5A
$5 Liberty Gold Piece 1904 AU

This coin is outstanding in that its surfaces are remarkably free
of pecks and marks. If it weren't for very, very slight wear to the top bun
area of Liberty's hair, and very slight flattening to only a couple places on
the reverse - like the horizontal bands to the viewer's left - this coin, if it
were completely Uncirculated, would go at a higher grade of Mint State. But
then, if a frog had wings ... This is, seriously, a very nice-surfaced coin. It
has considerable conspicuous lustre. We consider it to be an AU, but the photos
should suffice for interested parties to judge for themselves. Price
= .34 x Gold Spot
1907$5A
$5 Liberty Gold Piece 1907 AU

This 1907 $5 Liberty Gold Piece has excellent detailes, and a good bit of lustrous toning obverse and
reverse, a deeper hue of toning and luster. Only slight wear to the hair above
the well-defined headband, excellent hair detail on buns and neck. On small peck near Liberty's left
molar on obverse. Reverse's horizontal shield lines are visible
with only slight flattenint, and Eagle's neck
feathers are clear. Lustrous toning very pretty on reverse of
coin. We consider it to be Almost Uncirculated, but photos should
suffice for prospective buyers to judge grade for themselves. Price

II. 1880 – 1899
1880$5A
$5 Liberty Gold Piece 1880 XF

This 1880 Liberty $5 gold piece from Philadelphia has a frosty appearance and
a bit of carbon around the date. The buyer may clean it should he or she
desire; that will make the rest of them worth more. There's a bit of
irregularity inside the bead line on the obverse rim at 3 o'clock that appears
to be so from the mint. There's only the slightest flattenint
to the upper hairlines and directly above the L on the obverse headband.
Reverse's horizontal shield lines are about 70% visible by our estimate, and theres a hint of lustrous toning around the letters on
reverse. All this should be obvious enough from the photographs; but we put
these in Coin World holders for store display and the features aren't always
what people notice. We consider this to be at least an Extremely Fine. Price
= .32 x Gold Spot
1880s$5A
$5 Liberty Gold Piece 1880-S XF

This excellent 1880-S $5.00 Liberty has excellent detail and
only very slight hints of wear. Hair and beads are clear and strong on obv; headband excellent and clear. Slight
wear to obv rim at 4-5 o'clock. Excellent horizontal bands on reverse shield with only slight wear
apparent. We consider it to be in Extremely Fine Condition, but photos
should suffice for prospective buyers to grade for themselves. Price
= .32 x Gold Spot
1881$5xfC
$5 Liberty Gold Piece 1881 XF

This 1881 Liberty $5 gold piece is in
excellent condition. There's a good bit of detail on Liberty's hair above the
headband - whose detail is clear and sharp - and on her bun. Left ear is thin
and delicate. Reverse's horizontal shield lines are fairly clear, maybe 75% so.
We consider this coin at least an Extremely Fine, but photos should suffice for
buyers to judge for themselves. Price =
.32 x Gold Spot
1881$5D
$5 Liberty Gold Piece 1881 AU

This very nice 1881 $5 Gold Piece, struck in Philadelphia in 1881, has excellent
detail and considerable amounts of lustre near its edges - among the stars on
its obverse and less conspicuously among the letters on its reverse. Obverse
details are very strong, with only slight wear showing on Liberty's buns and
eyebrow, and even less on her hair above the well-defined headband. Reverse's
horizontal shield lines are visible but weak, and since the Eagle's neck
feathers are strong and clear this may indicate a weak strike. We consider this
coin an AU, but the photos should allow interested parties to judge for
themselves. Price = .34 x Gold Spot
1881$5E
$5 Liberty Gold Piece 1881 XF

This Philadelphia-struck $5.00 Gold Piece from 1881 has
excellent details to obverse and reverse, along with a bit of lustre. Hair
detail is excellent, with some wear showing at the top of Liberty's head and in
the centres of her buns. left
ear and eyebrows are very clear. There are several very small bag pecks
scattered about on the obverse, and one small scratch between the stars at 4
o'clock. Reverse has much detail to the horizontal shield lines, perhaps as
much as 50%; and the Eagle's neck feathers are remarkably detailed. We consider
this coin to be at least Extremely Fine. Many people would grade it AU, we
believe. Our photos, however, should allow interested parties to judge for
themselves - after all, that's who matters in this business,
qualified prospects, as the Insurance industry puts it. People with funds to pay for these. Price = .32 x Gold Spot
1881$5F:
$5 Liberty Gold Piece 1881 AU

This is a very pretty 1881 $5 Liberty Gold Piece struck in Philadelphia. it
has nice reddish-brown lustrous toning, more conspicuous on obverse than on
reverse. Hair lines have only slight flattenint on
the top of Liberty's head and on her buns. Reverse's horizontal shield lines
are about 40-50% visible, but Eagle's neck feathers have very sharp detail -
this may be explicable from a weak strike. We consider this coin to be an AU,
but the photos should suffice for interested parties to judge for
themselves. Price = .34 x Gold Spot
1881$5G
$5 Liberty Gold Piece 1881 AU

This 1881 $5 Gold Piece actually has some hints of lustre. The
hairline details are excellent on the obverse, just a slight amount of
flattening above the headband and on the buns. Liberty's ear is very delicate
and fine. There's a few slight bag marks on obverse, but not many. Reverse's
horizontal shield lines are about 80% visible. An excellent coin, we consider
this one to be Almost Uncirculated; the photos,
however, should suffice for interested parties to judge grade for
themselves. Price = .34 x Gold Spot
1882s$5A
$5 Liberty Gold Piece 1882-S XF

The reverse of this coin seems to us to outgrade
the obverse. This is, of course, a $5 Liberty from San Francisco, struck in
1882. It has considerable lustre obverse and reverse. The obverse may simply be
a weaker strike, because the upper hair above the band and the buns don't quite
muster, in our opinion, enough detail to go AU. Reverse's horizontal shield
bands are all visible, but flat in places and weak in places, about 70-80%
visible by our estimate. We consider this coin a strong XF, possibly good
enough to go AU. Interested parties should be able to judge from the photos. If
someone wanted to get this coin Certified, it would probably be a different
grade from each place. Price = .34 x Gold Spot
1887s$5A
$5 Liberty Gold Piece 1887-S AU

This S-mint $5.00 Gold Piece, struck in 1887, has a considerable
amount of lustre obverse and reverse. There is a very slight lack of detail to
the top of Liberty's hair and on the high point of her center bun. Reverse's
horizontal shield lines are almost entirely visible, and the mint mark is only
slightly rounded in appearance. We consider this 1887-S to be Almost
Uncirculated, but prospective buyers ought to be able to judge the grade for
themselves from our photos. Price = .35 x Gold Spot
1892$5A
$5 Liberty Gold Piece 1892 XF

This coin was struck in Philadelphia as the 1890's Depression
gathered steam. It is naturally dark, and the obverse has excellent detail on
the hair above the very clearly detailed headband. Both rims are excellent, and
there's about 50% of the horizontal lines visible on
the reverse shield. So we consider this $5 Liberty to be at least Extremely
Fine; the photos, however, should allow buyers to judge for themselves. Price = .34 x Gold Spot
1897$5A
$5 Liberty Gold Piece 1897 AU

This 1897 Philadelphia-struck Liberty $5 gold piece has a
considerable amount of lustre. There are only slight hints of wear to the hair above
the headband on obverse, and a few light pecks on the surface of obv. One Slight peck visible on obv rim at 10
o'clock. Horizontal lines on rev Shield are very clear, only
slight wear. Lots of lustre around the Eagle's head and neck.
We consider this an AU, but the photo should suffice for buyers to judge for
themselves. Price = .35 x Gold Spot
1899$5A
$5 Liberty Gold Piece 1899 BU

This $5 Gold Piece from Philadelphia, struck in 1899, is nearly perfect.
It has general overall lustre with hardly any surface abrasions of any kind.
Reverse horizontal shield lines are clear with some flattened areas. We
consider this one to be at least AU 58, and perhaps even as much as MS62. (sent to ANACS for grading; eta
available July 2008)
1899s$5A
$5 Liberty Gold Piece 1899-S XF

This 1899-S Liberty $5 gold piece is in
excellent condition. The obverse hair has great detail, even above the
well-defined headband. Liberty's ear is thin and pretty.
There are very light surface scratches that are not conspicuous, and when one
looks for them in direct light a good bit of lustrous appearance shows up.
Reverse's horizontal shield lines are about 90% visible,
and eagle neck feathers are dark but detailed well. Some toning rev near rim,
very pretty. We consider it to be in Extremely Fine Condition. Price
= .33 x Gold Spot
1899s$5B
$5 Liberty Gold Piece 1899-S XF

We're calling this coin, an 1899-S $5 Liberty Gold Piece, to be
Extremely Fine because there's considerable hairline detail on the obverse and,
exceptional for S-mints, clearly defined horizontal shield lines on the
reverse. The ultimate decision on grading is the prospective buyer’s, and
photos should suffice for that. Price =
.34 x Gold Spot
III. Pre-1880
1845$5A
$5 Liberty Gold Piece 1845 AU

This is one of the oldest pieces we've had in quite some time,
a $5 Gold Piece from Philadelphia struck in 1845. It has
excellent detail. There's ever-so-slight wear to the very top of Liberty's hair and on the center
bun. Neckline, neckline hair, and left ear are all exquisite. Reverse's
horizontal shield lines are strong, with only about 20-25% flattening on their
high points by our estimate. Eagle's neck feathers are strong, with slight
flattening. There's a small scrape on the reverse at 1 o'clock directly beneath the O. We
consider this coin to be an AU, but photos ought to allow prospective buyers to
judge for themselves as to grade. Own it for only (sent to ANACs for grading; eta available
July 2008)
1857s$5A
$5 Liberty Gold Piece 1857-S BU

This pre-Civil War S-Mint $5.00 gold piece is in near-mint if
not actual Mint State Condition. The surfaces have plenty of lustre and plenty
of detail. Liberty's ear, eyebrow, and hair
buns are very sharp on the obverse. On the reverse, as seems to be typical with
San Francisco strikes, the weak horizontal shield lines
conflict with extremely sharp Eagle's neck feathers. We strongly believe that
this coin is, if not MS-61 or 62, at least an AU-58. Photographs should suffice
for interested parties to judge for themselves. Own this excellent, low-mintage
coin (sent to
ANACS for grading; eta available July 2008)
